Demystifying Gluten Free and No Sugars No Grains with Anna Vocino

I’m so excited to be sharing with you our latest podcast, Demystifying Gluten Free and No Sugars No Grains with Anna Vocino.   It was such a pleasure to have Anna Vocino on our show.  She has truly cleared up the mystery around gluten free food.

You know how you walk down the grocery aisle trying to pick out the best food for your children and family, especially when it comes to treats.  It can be really hard to get through all the muddle, shininess, and prettiness of all the packaging.

Gluten Free, NSNG (No Sugars No Grains)  . . . Fad or Much More?

The latest and greatest fad is gluten free.  I ask Anna what it is all about and how it affects people who don’t have celiac, which is an autoimmune disease that causes people to be really hurt by gluten.   She clarifies how people like you and me who may not be celiac, or may have a hidden gluten intolerance, or just want to eat healthier can benefit from eliminating foods with gluten from our diet.  In light of a celebrity recently making fun of the gluten free craze, which I can understand is difficult to get if you aren’t affected by it, I thought it was important to demystify gluten free foods.

Even if we do not currently have a gluten intolerance, we consume so much of it that it is bound to affect our health.  Anna explains the ins and outs of how gluten affects our body.

I also ask Anna about another popular craze referred to as NSNG (No Sugars No Grains) which Anna transitioned to when she found that being gluten free was not enough for her body.  You may already be familiar with this term if you have ventured into the Paleo diet, Low Carb High Fat diet, Real Food diet . . . . there are so many titles that share the same basic premise.  They advocate taking out as much processed food out of your diet as possible, eat good amount of protein, increasing healthy fat, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, eating good dairy with probiotics, being selective of high quality nutritious foods, buying organic food if possible . . . just eating as clean as possible.  This is a wiser way of eating, in my opinion, as it looks back to the time of our Lord even . . . yes, they ate bread but not in the amount we eat today.

I never paid much attention to the gluten free diet in the past because I thought it was only for people that had celiac disease. I have personally had problems with digestion and migraines, but of course the doctors could never find a cause and told me I was completely healthy. I do eat a lot of grains and wheat. I am starting a lifestyle change and converting to a healthy meal plan. I am going to incorporate more clean meals in my diet to see if going gluten free will help me with my help. Thank you so much for all of the helpful information.

Hi Crystal. I myself am just learning the benefits of going gluten free and grain free. I’m still working on slowly incorporating that into my family’s lifestyle. I think any effort is a step in the right direction. Our health is so important, yet so easy to take for granted. Congrats on your journey. I hope you find the solution to your migraines and digestion issues. So glad you found the information helpful! Looking forward to keeping in touch 😉 -Marisela
