Choosing The Right Preschool

Choosing The Right Preschool For Your Child Can Be Daunting

Even though I’ve been a mom for 3 years now and I think I have it down, I am still a first time mom going through a lot of firsts.  As you read in the last post where I share 10 Steps to Protect Your Kid’s Teeth From Cavities, I have already started messing up on some of my first being that little one has her first cavities 🙁  So you can imagine how overwhelmed I must feel in choosing the right preschool for my little girl.

Choosing The Right Preschool

It’s a huge decision!  I am putting my child and her fragile little mind in someone else’s care.  At this age, when Iliana’s brain is like a sponge, I need to be careful who and what I allow near her.  Believe me, she DOES absorb everything.

Where To Start

I honestly did not know where to start.  The budget limitations sure narrowed the options down.  Luckily, there are a great group of moms in my life who had good insight as to what to look for from an kindergarten preparedness standpoint.  I left the rest to gut feeling, especially considering she’ll be enrolled for just the 2 months that remain in the current school year.  I figured I have time to check and adjust.

However, I was still uneasy.  Then come Claudia to the rescue 😉  She reminded me that one of our mommies in the Everything Stay At Home Mom community is going through this same experience.  Better yet, she is a child specialist who specialized in evaluating preschool environments.  I’m talking about Melissa Galvan, from Crazy Wonderful Motherhood.  Melissa graciously accepted to do another podcast with us (the first was Raising A Bilingual Child) to share her tips for choosing the right preschool for your child.

Melissa outlines 8 things to look for in a child care center, which she discusses on her blog.  So don’t delay, if you’ve never chosen a preschool,  . . . or perhaps have some reservations about your child’s current preschool, listen to the podcast for some very concrete professional advice coming from a real mom who has been there.
